Gamification: Yay or nay?

When considering using gamification in the classroom you need to consider many things. Some gamification can be fun and some are just bad. Some teach the kids a lot and others close to nothing at all. Gamification could also lead to the students being obsessed with playing the game. This doesn’t sound bad because they are learning. Although it can lead to the students not getting homework done and other responsibilities, which is not good. The best example of gamification that I saw was the Osmo game of numbers. The student is trying to free the fish back into the ocean and has to break the bubbles keeping him from the ocean with addition problems that add up to the numbers in the bubbles. It's fun, easy and help the students learn addition. I definitely do not think the gamification is just a fad. I believe that it is only going to grow bigger from here. Soon almost all of our lessons will include gamification. Researchers are coming out with new games every day. Who knows what we will see next?
